First one of these I've done in a while but when its someone elses night I can escape the door and the stage and have a proper listen at the bands. I honestly enjoyed last nights gig as much and possibly more than any other so far at the Black Market.
The night started with The Vibes and following our Brads 6 - 1 drubbing at football earlier in the day his Birthday had to get better!!
It did, I thought The Vibes played out of their skin, a great gig, the whole band were tight, assured and looked like they were enjoying it, I was well impressed with the new track Hip Hop Baby which i'd never heard b4? must get down to the shed for a listen more often! Also enjoyed Bourney's cameo appearance!! Rock n Roll.
Abiotic reminded us why they got to the final of the BOTB at The Mill and at the end of the gig had you trying to work out how the hell didn't they win it??? They were superb and kicked ass start to finish.
Diver kept the buzz going, the second time i've seen them and again put on a great performance with their punching riffs and Manic vocals which kept the venue throbbing and ensured their was no early exits. Another great set.
First time i'd seen Resistance 77, which is pretty incredible seeing as they've been going for more than 20 years!! I was expecting something good, as you would from a band that supported SLF and the Stranglers in December. All I can say is "what a band!!!" they are everything I enjoy about music and about live performance. I felt like I was watching one of my favourite bands from another era, they were powerfull tight, energetic and exciting. Apparantly Jo Guset? turned up to see them as well, a model or something? but more importantly than that I saw Dave Goff parting with cash to buy one of their CD's!! now that makes you special!!!
If there is any any lingering doubt whether or not I liked this band, i've invited them back on 25th Feb to play the Eddie & The Hotrods gig, I can't wait!!
Headlining the night was the brilliant Girls Play Boys. This 3 peice instantly got the stage front numbers back up with some modern punk pop straight out of the Green Day, Blink stable. Another powerhouse performance that made you look round for the additional members such was the sound, fat, apparantly!! I sincerely hope these guys enjoyed the night as much as us and made their journey from Scotland worthwhile, hope to see them back later in the year.
Thanks to the Know Pressure Promotion guys for a fantastic night, thanks to the crowd for turning out in numbers and staying the distance.
Our Brad had a great 15th Birthday, thanks to Pete Shields for the DVD of The Vibes performance which he somehow managed to film edit and burn to CD ready for Brad to take home at the end of the night!! how good was that.
