"Of all things" got the show started, a young band learning their craft and obviously 281 Knilb fans!! You have to start somewhere and these youngsters gave it their best with lots of energy but were trying too hard to emulate the technical side of Blink 182. I think these were very young lads and as such have plenty of time to polish their act find their own identity and improve the timing.
Formerly Butt Lane followed and played some high energy pop music that you could sing along with almost instantly. Their well executed riffs and powerfull melodic lead vocal produced catchy hook lines that I think were played well enough to have seen them through to the next round.
Pam went third and despite some early promise they lost their way a bit and lacked the hook and song writing ability that this competition needs from a winning band if it's to gain credibility. Pam are made up of 3 talented and cool guys and have some excellent vocal power but I didn't understand where the guitar riffs were coming from, they didn't seem tuned into the bass lines and sounded at their best when the guitar dropped out?. I didn't hear any memorable songs. Slightly Noddy Holder in places and very much Pistols on the last number. I liked the band but they were very much second best on the night to Formerly Butt Lane. A poor judges decision and in no way a dig at Pam who on another night would have been my choice.
Sorry Dementia but I had to leave before you came on , driving!! I'll be watching you on Saturday night though so its not so bad.
Well done to all the bands and hopefully see you all playing again soon.
